Upper Eyelid Surgery

A thoughtful approach to restoring clarity, openness and ease to the eyes

When your eyes no longer reflect how you see yourself

For many women, the eyes are the first place where age, fatigue or genetics begin to show. The change is often subtle, but you may experience it as heaviness, shadowing or a persistent tired appearance that doesn’t align with how you feel.

Upper eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) removes excess skin that can weigh down the upper eyelids, altering expression and, in some cases, affecting vision. The goal is not to change the character of your eyes, but to restore lightness and openness to an area that plays a central role in how you’re perceived — and how you perceive yourself.

In my practice, this procedure is approached with long-term outcomes in mind.

Before and After Results

Before and after results

Before-and-after images can be helpful, but they only tell part of the story. What matters just as much is how those results were achieved, how the patient healed and how the eyes continue to look months and years later. These images reflect natural outcomes in women who wanted to look refreshed, not transformed.

This is beauty, designed to last.

Who this procedure is (and isn’t) right for

Upper blepharoplasty can be an excellent option for women who:

  • Notice heaviness or drooping of the upper eyelids.

  • Feel their eyes look tired, closed off or less expressive.

  • Want a result that looks natural and ages well over time.

  • Are seeking a surgical solution with a relatively short recovery.

Just as important, upper eyelid surgery is not the right solution for everyone. This procedure may not be appropriate if:

  • Eyelid heaviness is driven primarily by brow position rather than excess skin.

  • Medical conditions make surgery unsafe.

  • Expectations lean toward dramatic change rather than refinement.

  • Emotional readiness or motivation suggests surgery may not address the underlying concern.

Part of my role as your surgeon is helping determine whether this procedure truly serves you or whether another approach (including no surgery at all) is the better choice. And when surgery is deemed appropriate, my goal is a result that looks effortless, heals predictably and continues to feel right years from now.

Dr. Janet Chao Pearl’s approach to upper eyelid surgery

Upper eyelid surgery is a technically precise procedure. Even the smallest decisions (like the incision placement, tissue removal and preservation of natural contours) will have a significant impact on both appearance and recovery. I take these choices very seriously.

My technique prioritizes:

  • Natural anatomy, removing excess skin while preserving the character of the eye.

  • Conservative correction, avoiding an over-operated or hollowed look.

  • Efficient healing that minimizes disruption to surrounding tissue so patients return to their lives sooner.

  • Longevity, with results that continue to look appropriate as your face evolves over time.

I do not believe in aggressive tissue removal or add-on techniques that may prolong recovery without improving long-term outcomes. Every plan is individualized, and every decision is made with restraint and intention.

What to expect from Dr. Chao Pearl

Timeless Faces is a boutique, concierge-style facial plastic surgery practice designed to offer a highly personal and continuous experience of care. This structure allows me to remain intimately involved at every stage of the process and to work thoughtfully with patients for whom surgery is truly the right choice.

From consultation through recovery, you work directly with me as your surgeon. There is no rotating team of doctors, no army of assistants, no handoffs.

The process typically includes:

  • A detailed consultation focused on anatomy, goals and candidacy.

  • A clear discussion of what surgery can (and cannot) accomplish.

  • Thoughtful planning based on how your eyes will age, not just how they look today.

If surgery is the right step, the procedure itself is performed with meticulous attention to detail and efficiency. After surgery, I remain closely involved in your care, monitoring healing and addressing questions as they arise.

Recovery and healing

One of the most common concerns about eyelid surgery is recovery. For many clients, it is more manageable than expected.

While individual experiences vary, many patients find:

  • Swelling and bruising improve steadily over the first one to two weeks.

  • Discomfort is usually mild and well controlled.

  • They are able to return to daily activities relatively quickly.

  • Results continue to refine over several months.

Because I avoid techniques that unnecessarily prolong healing, my patients are often able to resume their routines sooner without sacrificing the quality or durability of the result.
